Penn State Health Children’s Week Exceeds $100,000

Gifts to Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital totaled $100,170 during Penn State Health Children’s Week, a fundraising campaign held April 8-14, 2024.

These gifts will support CMN’s Patient Assistance Endowment, which provides patients and their families with meal and gas vouchers, medical devices, specialty medication and other forms of relief.

Last year, 17-year-old Joshua Yoder spent 18 days at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital battling an aggressive respiratory virus. Throughout Joshua’s stay, his mom, Jean, remained by his side as his medical team placed him on a ventilator and monitored his progress.

“In the first few days of our hospitalization, I was busy just trying to get our lives straightened out. I am so thankful for funding through CMN’s Patient Assistance Endowment because it allowed the staff to make sure I had a hot meal to look forward to and get me through the day,” said Jean.

When a child is in the hospital, parents juggle unexpected challenges and often neglect their own needs. Thanks to CMN, Jean was able to focus on Joshua’s recovery while still taking care of herself.

“The Patient Assistance Endowment is not just a financial resource. It is a lifeline for those struggling to meet basic needs during challenging times. To be the support that sustains others is a privilege, and it’s through the collective compassion of the CMN community of donors that we can lift up families in need,” said Katie Anderson, director of Children’s Miracle Network.

Sponsors of the event included Ace Hardware, The GIANT Company, Woodstream, McClure Company, Bobby Rahal Toyota, United Concordia, Shollenberger, Januzzi & Wolfe, LLP, and Cumulus Media.
