Celebrating “People Helping People” on International Credit Union Day
Local credit unions as part of Credit Unions for Kids have contributed over $100,000 and counting to Children’s Miracle Network Hershey in support of Penn State Childen’s Hospital in the last year, adding up to more than $200 million raised nationally since 1996. On this #InternationalCreditUnionDay, we are celebrating all of our amazing credit union partners who continue to bring to life the industry’s motto of #PeopleHelpingPeople and make an immeasurable difference in the lives of local sick and injured kids.
Kids like Miles, who lives with hydrocephalus, epiliepsy and other developmental conditions. At 8 years old, Miles has had almost 30 surgeries at Penn State Children’s Hospital. But mom, Alex, says that “everything that he’s gone through in the last 8 years has made him exactly the person he’s supposed to be…He impacts everyone he meets just because of his personality, his happiness and spirit. And that is something this world needs. THAT is a miracle.”
And just like the world needs “Miracle Miles,” it also needs the hundreds of thousands of credit union employees around the globe, making a difference in their local communities and beyond. We believe that when we positively change the health of even one child, we create a ripple effect felt by our communities for years to come. When we ensure our children can lead healthy, fulfilling lives, we foster the scientists, inventors, artists, and leaders of tomorrow.
Whether raised thru employee Miracle Jeans Days, unique events like VIZO Financial’s virtual hot dog eating contest, sponsorships or other fundraisers like coin collections and virtual walk-athons (pre/during COVID-19), every dollar from Central PA credit union employees and members will make miracles for the 100,000 kids treated each year at Penn State Children’s Hospital.
