A Hummingbird for Hope

The annual Member’s 1st Federal Credit Union Hummingbird Ornament Sale is more than just a holiday tradition – it’s an opportunity to support the mission of Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital. Every purchase of the hummingbird ornament helps children and families through lifesaving medical equipment, compassionate family resources and services, and innovative pediatric research.

The hummingbird, a symbol of resilience and beauty, captures the spirit of young patients. Many customers return to Member’s 1st year after year to collect the new ornament. For families who have lost a child or loved one, the ornament often becomes a meaningful tribute of life’s delicate beauty.

This year, Member’s 1st is pleased to share that the hummingbird ornament’s colors – teal, light green, and pink – were selected by CMN Miracle Child Harper, a young patient directly impacted by CMN-funded programs and services during her hospitalization. Watch her Hummingbird video here.

The demand for the hummingbird ornament is growing, with Member’s 1st branch locations selling out each year. In fact, calls begin as early as mid-October, as customers check in to make sure they can get their hands on the latest ornament release. Since 2011, the Member’s 1st ornament sale has raised more than $331,000. This year, Member’s 1st has increased their usual inventory to meet the high demand but still expect to sell out before Christmas. The ornament, which costs $20 and includes a decorative box, is available for in-store purchase at all Member’s 1st locations while supplies last.

“We’re extremely proud for the support of Member’s 1st associates who champion the Hummingbird campaign with heartfelt creativity, from designing in-store displays to showcasing the ornament’s impact. In addition, the community’s continued support is humbling – they are truly helping to bring hope, honor, and healing to children and families when they need it most,” said Katie Anderson, CMN Director.
